Snohomish Valley Holistic Medicine is happy to welcome Licensed Massage Practitioner, Gyda Harris, to our clinic. Gyda will be available for massage appointments on Tuesdays beginning July 8th. Dr. Bowker is now the proud new mother of baby William Douglas Bowker, born June 10th, 2008. Mom, Dad, and baby are doing well and beginning to settle into a routine (and even managing to get some sleep). Dr. Bowker hopes to be able to return to seeing patients on a part-time basis beginning in August.

For those of you who don't already know, Dr. Bowker and her husband are expecting their first baby soon. The due date is June 10th, and Dr. Bowker plans to take maternity leave beginning in June. During her leave, patients may still receive Naturopathic Medical care from Dr. Summer Beattie, ND or Dr. Theresa Martez, ND; however, Thursday appointments will no longer be available for Naturopathic Medicine.

Beginning this month, Dr. Bowker will be serving as a board member for the Washington Association of Naturopathic Physicians. Serving on this board is a way to further the profession of Naturopathic Medicine in WA state as well as to make sure Naturopaths in this state are meeting the needs of our patients. Dr. Bowker will also be serving on committees dealing with legislative issues and community outreach. Due to this commitment, office hours may be adjusted a few evenings a month to accommodate meetings. Dr. Bowker will do her best to maintain evening appointments at least one night a week.

Happy Summer! Snohomish Valley Holistic Medicine will be taking a break from classes, but look for an updated schedule in September. Dr. Bowker will continue to teach some community classes throughout the summer for Evergreen Community Health Education.

Dr. Bowker will be volunteering on a Washington Association of Naturopathic Physicians' committee to help improve access to natural healthcare for children on state funded healthcare plans. One of Dr. Bowker's passions is to improve access to Naturopathic Medicine for the uninsured and uninsured. Many people are left without choice in their healthcare options because they cannot afford to pay out of pocket. Increasing politicians' awareness of this issue is the first step towards making changes that will benefit those on state funded insurance plans. This means that Dr. Bowker may be taking days off from seeing patients in order to do this important work. We hope that our patients and community will be supportive in this endeavor.

Snohomish Valley Holistic Medicine is pleased to announce that our practitioners are now credentialed with Regence Blue Shield and can accept insurance plans that have benefits for Naturopathic Medicine and/or Acupuncture.

Charleen Van Horn, LAc, LMP is now credentialed with the First Choice Network for Massage and Acupuncture. If your insurance card has the First Choice logo, you may be covered--call your plan to verify your benefits.

Happy New Year! We hope that 2007 brings you much health, happiness, and fond memories. Here at Snohomish Valley Holistic Medicine, 2007 will be a year of change. Cassandra Strunk, LMP of TouchPoints Massage will be moving out of the area and closing her practice in Snohomish, effective January 1st. We will miss her greatly and I know her regular clients will too. On a positive note, we are welcoming a new practitioner to our clinic. Charleen Van Horn is a licensed acupuncturist and massage practitioner. She brings with her a variety of talents and experience and is eager to build her practice in Snohomish. We have scheduled an open house for February 23, 2007 to give friends, local businesses, and community members a chance to see the changes we've made and meet all of the practitioners.
